If you have received a new message from a driver that was sent via their vehicle's MDT (mobile data terminal), in Synovia, an alert chime will be played, the mail icon in the site banner will become yellow, and the number of unacknowledged messages will appear under the icon, like this: . To read the message, follow these steps:


Note: For more information about sending and receiving messages from the MDTs, including the features of the Mail screen, see Navigating the Mail Screen.


  1. Click  (or , if you have no unread messages) in the site banner.

    The Mail screen will appear.
     
     
  2. Click  in the row of the message you want to read.
    Note: If the message is short enough, you may be able to just read it on the Mail screen, in the Message column at the far right.
     The message's Details screen will appear.
      
     
  3. You can read the message text on the left below "Message."
     
    These are the options at the top right of the screen:
     
    • : Returns you to the Mail screen.
       
    • : Begins the process of composing a reply message for the driver. (See Replying to a Message.)
       
    • : Opens the Fleet Tracking screen and begins to watch the vehicle that sent the message live. (See Tracking a Vehicle That Sent a Message.)
       
    • : Opens the Map Nearby screen, with the vehicle's location selected, so that you can search for vehicles near it (such as if it has been in an accident and needs a substitute bus to come pick up the students). (See Mapping Vehicles near the Message Sender.)
       
    • : Saves the screen data as a PDF you can print, including both the information on the left of the screen and the grid on the right.
       
    • : Exports just the grid data on the right side of the screen to an Excel spreadsheet.
