Canned messages are prewritten messages that can be quickly sent from the MDTs (mobile data terminals) to dispatch. Synovia comes prepackaged with simple ones such as "Yes," "No," and "I do have that student on the bus." You can edit the existing messages or create new ones on the Canned Messages screen in Synovia, and the changes and additions will appear on the devices after the drivers perform their next sync.

This article describes the various features of the Canned Messages screen, which you access by clicking  >> Canned Messages.

Note: For information about the banner at the top and accordion menu on the left, see Navigating the Synovia Site.

These are the options at the top right of the screen:

  • : Begins the process of creating a new canned message. (See Adding a Canned Message for details.)

  • : Refreshes the data on the screen (which can be especially useful if other users are making changes).

  • : Deletes the selected canned message(s). (See Deleting a Canned Message for details.)

  • : Saves the grid data as a PDF you can print.

  • : Exports the grid data to an Excel spreadsheet.

Here is an explanation of the grid icon and column headers:

  • : Opens the Edit Canned Message screen, on which you can change a message's text and its order on the MDT's Quick Text screen. (See Editing a Canned Message for details.)

  • Message: The message text.

  • Order: The order in which the messages will appear on the MDT's Quick Text screen. 1 will be first on the screen, 2 will be second, and so on.
Note: Here's how the messages appear on the MDTs, with the 2018.08+ user interface (UI) first, and the older UI following:

  • Last Modified By: The user who last made a change to the canned message.

  • Last Modified Date: The date and time of that last change.

Along the bottom of the screen are icons that enable you to navigate through the pages of data (if needed). See Paging Options for an explanation of these.
