CalAmp K-12 is introducing a new Mail screen, which for the time being will exist alongside our original Mail screen. The new page will present your messages in a conversation-based view, so that you can see both sides of a thread, kind of like how your SMS app appears when you text on a mobile phone.

Note: You may already have access to the new Mail screen; if you do, you will see two  icons in the site banner.

The legacy Mail screen will be sunsetted on February 29, which means that only the new Mail screen will be available after that.

The Mail screen is where you receive messages within the CalAmp K-12 software from the drivers of your organization's vehicles, sent via the MDT (mobile data terminal), and can send messages to the drivers, in kind of a dispatch setup. This article describes the various features of the new Mail screen, which you access by clicking the left mail icon, if you have two in the site banner ( if you have no unacknowledged messages and  if you have unacknowledged messages, with the number of unread ones below the icon).

The conversations (including both messages you've received from the MDTs and messages you've sent) will appear in a grid on the left, with the most recent thread on top.

You can give either pane more screen real estate by clicking and dragging the divider bar left or right.

Note: For information about the banner at the top of the screen and accordion menu on the left, see Navigating the CalAmp K-12 Site.

These are the options at the top right of the screen:

  • : Saves the grid data as a PDF you can print.

  • : Exports the grid data to an Excel spreadsheet.

Here is an explanation of the Conversations grid's icons and column headers:

  • : Opens the conversation in the right pane, including messages from the driver and responses from dispatch. (See Reading a Conversation.)

  • Subject: The subject of the message that started the conversation.

  • Conversation Start: The date and time the first message in the thread was sent.

  • Last Message: The text of the last message in the thread.

  • Last Message Time: The date and time the last message in the conversation was sent.

  • Veh. Cnt: The number of vehicles that were sent the initial message.

  • Is Read?: Whether the message has been read by the driver (with values of Yes and No).

  • : Launches a window you can use to send a reply. If this is grayed out, the last message sent was from CalAmp K-12 (you/dispatch), not the driver.

Along the bottom of the grid are icons that enable you to navigate through the pages of data, if needed. See Paging Options for an explanation of these.

These are the options at the top right of the Conversations pane and the Conversation Details pane:

  • : Begins the process of composing a new message for a driver. (See Sending a Message to a Driver Using the New Mail Screen.)

  • : Removes the selected messages (after you confirm the deletion in a Warning dialog box).

  • : Marks the selected conversations as read.

  • : Opens the Reply window, in which you can form a reply message.
