Each built-in CalAmp K-12 Dashboard is designed to provide key information about a specific aspect of your fleet management in an at-a-glance view with various types of charts, grids, and links to the underlying reports. This article describes the HCTB Dashboard, which provides details about your Here Comes the Bus (HCTB) implementation, including how many HCTB accounts are not getting notifications or map data due to hardware issues, cellular issues, and tiers not starting correctly; how many accounts have students without assigned bus stops; and which notifications were sent out in the last month.

Note: To see how to view the Dashboards and for details about all of the prebuilt ones, go to Viewing a Dashboard.

To examine the HCTB Dashboard, follow these steps:

  1. Click  >> Dashboards.

    The Dashboards screen will appear.

By default, Favorite Dashboards will be selected. (For details on adding a Dashboard as a bookmark, go to Adding a Dashboard As a Favorite.)

  2. Click Synovia Dashboards.

All the Dashboards will appear in a list on the right.

  3. Click HCTB — the actual "HCTB" text, not elsewhere in the row.

    The HCTB Dashboard will appear.

Here is a description of each of its tiles:

    • HCTB Users Affected by Non-reporting Hardware: The number of Here Comes the Bus users whose students are assigned to vehicles with hardware that hasn't reported to CalAmp K-12 within the last 72 hours; therefore, the HCTB users can't see their students' buses on the map and aren't getting notifications.

The report that provides data for the HCTB Users Affected by Non-reporting Hardware tile (which you access by clicking  at the tile's top right) is HCTB Users Affected by Non-reporting Hardware Summary Dashboard. It lists your vehicles by primary group and ESN, number of associated HCTB accounts, when they last reported, how many days it's been since that last report to CalAmp K-12 (0 means that it reported today), and whether they reported in the time frame of the last three days.

The HCTB Users Affected by Non-reporting Hardware tile uses the Vehicle Reported in Time Frame and HCTB Count columns of this report, totaling the number of accounts associated with vehicles that have N values in the former.
Note: To rectify the situation, check the report's list for the vehicles that aren't reporting and ascertain what the problem is for each one, perhaps returning devices via the RMA process. (For details, see Returning Hardware and Obtaining a Replacement [Performing an RMA].)
    • HCTB Users Affected by Non-reporting Hardware Detail: A grid view of the HCTB Users Affected by Non-reporting Hardware data, listing which vehicles aren't reporting, device ESNs, and the number of Here Comes the Bus accounts affected per vehicle, with the highest number of affected accounts on top.

This tile not just uses the same report as the HCTB Users Affected by Non-reporting Hardware tile (the HCTB Users Affected by Non-reporting Hardware Summary Dashboard report), but it is simply a smaller view of it.

    • HCTB Users Affected by Invalid ESNs: The total number of Here Comes the Bus accounts affected by vehicles not having a valid LMU ESN assigned.

The report that provides data for HCTB Users Affected by Invalid ESNs (which you access by clicking  at the tile's top right) (HCTB Users Affected by Invalid ESNs Summary Dashboard) lists the vehicles by primary group, ESN (should an incorrect one be assigned such as 1234 instead of just none), and number of affected accounts per vehicle.
Note: This situation also needs fixing as soon as possible. Without a valid ESN, vehicles can't be tracked at all (and of course cannot report data to HCTB). (For details, see Adding a Vehicle's ESN.)
    • HCTB Users Affected by Invalid ESNs Detail: A grid view of the HCTB Users Affected by Invalid ESNs data, listing the vehicles with an invalid LMU ESN assigned (or none assigned at all), with the highest number of affected accounts on top.

This tile is a smaller view of the report that provides the HCTB Users Affected by Invalid ESNs tile its data, HCTB Users Affected by Invalid ESNs Summary Dashboard.

    • HCTB Users Affected by Cellular Issues: The number of Here Comes the Bus accounts whose students are assigned to vehicles that had events that took 30 seconds or more to be reported to CalAmp K-12 because of trouble with cellular coverage over the last seven days.

HCTB Users Affected by Cellular Issues pulls its data from the HCTB Users Affected by Cellular Issues Summary Dashboard report (which you access by clicking at the tile's top right). It lists your vehicles, their primary group, their ESN, the average latency the vehicle has experienced over the last week (latency is the difference in seconds between when an event occurred and when the server received the data), the number of affected accounts per vehicle, and whether the latency is lower than the threshold of 30 seconds (with Y and N values).

    • HCTB Users Affected by Cellular Issues Detail: A grid view of the HCTB Users Affected by Cellular Issues data, listing which vehicles had the latency issues, with the highest average on top, plus the number of affected HCTB accounts associated with each vehicle.

HCTB Users Affected by Cellular Issues Detail not just uses the same report as the HCTB Users Affected by Cellular Issues tile (HCTB Users Affected by Cellular Issues Summary Dashboard), but it is simply a smaller view of it.

    • HCTB Users Affected by Tier Not Starting: The number of Here Comes the Bus accounts affected by tiers that weren't reported as started. If a bus runs its route but its tier isn't registered as starting (for example, if a substitution wasn't made or the route didn't begin within its tier-start time window), you won't get Planned vs. Actual (PvA) data or HCTB data for your parents.

The underlying report for HCTB Users Affected by Tier Not Starting lists the tiers that weren't recorded as having started, the vehicle names, their primary group, ESNs, the name of each HCTB account user who is affected, and the user's email address.

    • HCTB Users Affected by Tier Not Starting Detail: A grid view of the HCTB Users Affected by Tier Not Starting data, listing the nonstarted tiers, the corresponding vehicles, and number of affected HCTB accounts per tier, with the highest count on top. This is not just a copy of the preceding tile's background report, as it doesn't specify each HCTB user individually.
Warning: This may indicate a training issue — with perhaps drivers not performing the correct steps to indicate the tier start. Without that, Here Comes the Bus won't be able to report any data to your parents. The number one reason a tier won't be registered as having started is that the substitution wasn't entered (either on the MDT or in the office using CalAmp K-12). Other issues are the driver beginning the run outside of the planned time window for its start or the stop event not being correctly performed (such as Entrance Door Open or Stop Arm Open).

    • HCTB Accounts Where Student Has No Stops: The number of Here Comes the Bus accounts that have students with no assigned stops.

The source report for this widget lists the account owner's names and email addresses, the students with the missing bus stops, and their student ID numbers.
Note: To fix this, you'll need to contact your route planning system representative, inform them of which students have missing stops, and have them rectify the situation.
    • HCTB Notifications by Type Last 30 Days: A line chart showing when and how many Here Comes the Bus notifications were sent out in the last month, separated by type. The number of notices is the y-axis, and the dates over the last month are the x-axis. You can mouse over a line to see which notification is indicated and its exact count.

These are the notifications shown in the chart:

      • Entry: The alert sent out when the bus enters the circle surrounding the student’s bus stop; indicated by the orange line.

      • Bus Substitution: The notification sent out when a vehicle substitution is made on the MDT or via CalAmp K-12 (as long as the substitution is entered before the start of the first tier of a route); indicated by the blue line.

      • Exit: The notice sent out when the bus leaves the notification radius; indicated by the green line.

      • Scan: The message sent when your student scans on/off the bus. This will appear only if your school district has the Student Ridership module and will be indicated by a pink line.

    • The report for this tile lists the notification types that were sent out by date (with the oldest [30 days ago] on top) and total number of each type each day.

    • Validated HCTB Accounts: A radial gauge showing the percentage of how many parents have validated their accounts. (They validate them by clicking the link sent to them via email after account creation.) The black line is the actual percentage value; the colors offer a visual comparison of percent numbers (red for less than 80%, yellow for 80% to 89%, and green for 90% to 100%).

The Validated HCTB Accounts report lists all of your HCTB account holders by name and email address, number of students, validation date, when they last logged in to HCTB, and their individual validation status (with a Y or N value in the Validated column).

  4. You can click Refresh Now at the top left of the HCTB Dashboard to reload its data.
Note: To the right of the Refresh Now button is the date and time of the most recent data refresh (the "Last Refresh" value), and to the right of that is when the next refresh is planned (the "Next Scheduled Refresh" value).
You can click Schedule Refresh at the top left to change when the data will be refreshed (daily, weekly, or monthly and at a time of your choosing).

  5. You can click  at the top right of the screen to export all the Dashboard's tiles to a PDF.

At the top right of each tile (in addition to , which opens the report that provides the tile's data), you'll have these options:

    • : Removes the tile from the Dashboard (after you confirm the deletion).

    • : Launches the Tile Properties window, in which you can rename the tile and select a different report to base the results off of.

    • : Opens the settings for the tile, in which you can redefine its layout, change its component data, and change the formatting, such as the color that represents certain values.
