Each built-in CalAmp K-12 Dashboard is designed to provide key information about a specific aspect of your fleet management in an at-a-glance view with various types of charts, grids, and links to the underlying reports. This article describes the Hardware Dashboard, which provides details about the health of your CalAmp K-12 hardware, including how many of your vehicles are reporting, so you can follow up on those that aren't (perhaps returning devices via the RMA process); how many have cellular issues; and how many have GPS problems.

Note: To see how to view the Dashboards and for details about all of the prebuilt ones, go to Viewing a Dashboard.

For details about the RMA process, see Returning Hardware and Obtaining a Replacement (Performing an RMA).

To examine the Hardware Dashboard, follow these steps:

  1. Click  >> Dashboards.

    The Dashboards screen will appear.

By default, Favorite Dashboards will be selected. (For details on adding a Dashboard as a bookmark, go to Adding a Dashboard As a Favorite.)

  2. Click Synovia Dashboards.

All the Dashboards will appear in a list on the right.

  3. Click Hardware — the actual "Hardware" text, not elsewhere in the row.

    The Hardware Dashboard will appear.

Here is a description of each of its tiles:

    • Vehicles Reporting: A radial gauge showing the percentage of your vehicles that have reported to CalAmp K-12 in the last three days (or 30 days — this can vary by customer choice). The black line is the actual percentage value for your fleet; the colors offer a visual comparison of percent numbers (red for less than 80%, yellow for 80% to 89%, and green for 90% to 100%).

The report that provides data for Vehicles Reporting (which you access by clicking  at the tile's top right), Hardware Reporting Dashboard, actually feeds several tiles for the Hardware Dashboard. It lists your vehicles by primary group and ESN, when they last reported, their peripheral (if any), the product line (such as LMU-4233, provider Verizon, and JPOD 2), how many days it's been since the vehicle's device reported to CalAmp K-12 (0 means that it reported today), whether the vehicle and mobile data terminal (MDT) reported in the time frame (which is usually three days), its last reported event, whether its engine diagnostic (ED) cable is connected, the operating system version on its peripheral, and the peripheral map version.

The Vehicles Reporting tile uses the Vehicle Reported in Time Frame column of the Hardware Reporting Dashboard report, counts the vehicles that have reported, and figures those as a percentage of all the vehicles.

    • Peripherals Reporting: A radial gauge showing the percentage of your peripheral devices (such as mobile data terminals) that have reported to CalAmp K-12 in the last three days (or 30 days — again, this can vary by customer choice). The black line is the percentage value; the colors offer a visual comparison of percent numbers (red for less than 80%, yellow for 80% to 89%, and green for 90% to 100%).

The underlying report for Peripherals Reporting (which you access by clicking at the tile's top right) is the same as for Vehicles Reporting (see that bullet for details), Hardware Reporting Dashboard. It uses the MDT Reported in Time Frame column, counts the peripherals that have reported in the time frame (usually three days), and figures those as a percentage of all the vehicles.

    • Engine Diag Disconnected: The number of vehicles that currently have the engine diagnostics cable unplugged.

The report that provides data for Engine Diag Disconnected (which you access by clicking  at the tile's top right) is the same as for Vehicles Reporting (see that bullet for details), Hardware Reporting Dashboard. It uses the Engine Diag Cable Connected column, counts the No values, and displays the total.

    • Cellular Issues: The count of vehicles that had events that took 30 seconds or more to be reported to CalAmp K-12 because of trouble with cellular coverage over the last seven days.

Cellular Issues pulls its data from the Hardware Latency Dashboard report (which you access by clicking at the tile's top right). It lists your vehicles, their primary group, the average latency the vehicle has experienced (latency is the difference in seconds between when an event occurred and when the server received the data), and whether the latency is lower than the threshold of 30 seconds (with Y and N values).

    • Cellular Issues Detail: A grid view of the cellular issues data, listing which vehicles had the latency issues, with the highest average on top.

Cellular Issues Detail not just uses the same report as the Cellular Issues tile (Hardware Latency Dashboard), but it is simply a smaller view of it.

    • Static Low Battery: The number of vehicles whose last event reported to CalAmp K-12 was Static Low Battery, which indicates that the battery voltage is below 10.5.

Static Low Battery's report is the same as for many of the Hardware Dashboard's tiles, Hardware Reporting Dashboard. (See the Vehicles Reporting bullet for details about it.) It uses the Event column and reports how many vehicles have a value of Static Low Battery.

    • GPS Issues: The count of vehicles that had trouble connecting to a GPS satellite over the last seven days.

The background report for GPS Issues (which you access by clicking  at the tile's top right) lists your vehicles, their primary group, the average satellite counts for the vehicle over the last seven days, and whether the satellite count is lower than the threshold of 8 (with Y and N values).

    • GPS Issues Detail: A grid view of the GPS issues data, listing which vehicles had the low satellite counts, with the lowest on top.

GPS Issues Detail is a smaller view of the same report that feeds the GPS Issues tile (Hardware Satellites Dashboard).

    • Primary Group Not Assigned: The number of your fleet vehicles that aren't assigned to a primary group.
Warning: If this tile returns any count higher than 0, it's cause for immediate action. Vehicles must be assigned to a primary group for even Core CalAmp K-12 functionality such as Fleet Tracking to work. (See Assigning a Vehicle to a Group for details.)

Primary Group Not Assigned uses the same report as many of the Hardware Dashboard's tiles, Hardware Reporting Dashboard. (See the Vehicles Reporting bullet for details about it.) It uses the Primary Group column and reports how many vehicles have no value there.

    • LMU Firmware: A stacked bar chart showing the different types of firmware on your vehicles' devices and how many there are per product line.

The LMU Firmware tile uses the same report as many of the Hardware Dashboard's tiles, Hardware Reporting Dashboard. (See the Vehicles Reporting bullet for details about it.) It summarizes the data in the Product Line column graphically.

    • Peripheral Firmware: A pie chart showing the percentages of each of the different types of firmware on your vehicles' peripherals. You can mouse over a pie wedge to see the firmware version and the number of peripherals with that version.

The Peripheral Firmware report is the same as many of the Hardware Dashboard's tiles, Hardware Reporting Dashboard. (See the Vehicles Reporting bullet for details about it.) It summarizes the data in the Peripheral OS column graphically.

    • Peripheral Map Version: A pie chart with each section demonstrating a percentage of the map versions on your MDTs. When you place your cursor over a wedge, the map version and count of peripherals using it will be displayed.

The Peripheral Map Version report is the same as many of the Hardware Dashboard's tiles, Hardware Reporting Dashboard. (See the Vehicles Reporting bullet for details about it.) It summarizes the data in the Peripheral Map Version column graphically.

    • Vehicles Without Peripheral: The number of your fleet vehicles that do not have a peripheral such as an MDT.

The Vehicles Without Peripheral report is the same as many of the Hardware Dashboard's tiles, Hardware Reporting Dashboard. (See the Vehicles Reporting bullet for details about it.) This tile pulls its data from the Peripheral Type column (and reports the number of vehicles with no value there).

  4. You can click Refresh Now at the top left of the Hardware Dashboard to reload its data.
Note: To the right of the Refresh Now button is the date and time of the most recent data refresh (the "Last Refresh" value), and to the right of that is when the next refresh is planned (the "Next Scheduled Refresh" value).
You can click Schedule Refresh at the top left to change when the data will be refreshed (daily, weekly, or monthly and at a time of your choosing).

  5. You can click  at the top right of the screen to export all the Dashboard's tiles to a PDF.

At the top right of each tile (in addition to , which opens the report that provides the tile's data), you'll have these options:

    • : Removes the tile from the Dashboard (after you confirm the deletion).

    • : Launches the Tile Properties window, in which you can rename the tile and select a different report to base the results off of.

    • : Opens the settings for the tile, in which you can redefine its layout, change its component data, and change the formatting, such as the color that represents certain values.
