This article describes the various features of the Input Monitor screen, which enables you to monitor the activity of a specific input on a map, live or in the past, so you can check if all the streets have been covered — for example, you can see which roads are currently being (or have been) snowplowed after a snowstorm. You can access this screen by clicking  >> Input Monitor.

Note: For information about the banner at the top of the screen and accordion menu on the left, see Navigating the CalAmp K-12 Site.

The Input Monitor feature is included in Core but not enabled by default. Contact your customer success manager (CSM) or solutionsupport@calamp.com if you would like the screen activated and to begin tracking certain inputs.

Caution: The request to enable inputs for monitoring requires 24 hours to take effect. In addition, some street segments may not be indicated even when the input is operational if no GPS reporting event occurred when the vehicle was on that road. It may be necessary to increase the reporting frequency when the input is enabled. If you observe significant data discrepancies, contact your CSM or solutionsupport@calamp.com.

Here are some of the types of inputs you can monitor:

  • Police lights
  • Police sirens
  • PTO (power takeoff)
  • Salt spreaders
  • Snowplows
  • Street sweepers
  • Street vacuums
  • Strobe lights
  • Water sprayers

Just under the Input Monitor breadcrumb ("Home / Input Monitor") at the top left of the screen are the options you have for monitoring your vehicles' input activity. This is what you'll see when you expand the Options window:

You can watch the inputs live via the Live tab or see past events on the History tab. On the Live tab, you can also see the activity for the past 12 hours, color coding them into up to three time blocks. For example, you could set current input events up to 2 hours ago to be displayed on green path lines, events from 2 hours ago to 6 hours ago as yellow, and those from 6 hours to 12 hours earlier red. For details, see Watching Live Input Activity Using the Input Monitor or Checking Historical Input Activity Using the Input Monitor.

You can also see input activity data by running the Input Time & Mileage reports. (Go to Running a Report for details on how to run a report.)

The Map Toolbar

At the top right, you'll see a toolbar with the following options:

A few of these icons aren't useful for the Input Monitor, but these are:

: Displays the map full-screen.

: Centers the map on the input activity results.

: Enables you to search for a specific address or location.

: Enables you to show zones in your area.

: Saves the map and grid data as a PDF you can print.

: Exports the grid data to an Excel spreadsheet.

Other Map Options

You can use the  buttons to zoom in and out on the map.

When you hover your cursor over  on the right of the map, the following options appear:

  • Streets: Shows the default map view, with street names.

  • Satellite: Brings up a satellite view, showing a raw, aerial image of the map.

  • Traffic: Displays the current traffic conditions, coded by color, as follows:

    • Green: Light traffic

    • Yellow: Moderate traffic

  • Traffic Incidents: Shows current traffic incidents in the area, including accidents and construction zones.

  • Weather Radar: Displays the current weather radar indicators (if they are available from NOAA).

You can right-click any location on the map and select Location Details. The address, latitude/longitude coordinates, and posted speed limit (if available) will appear in a pop-up at the bottom left of the map. You'll also have the option to open the location in Google Map's Street view. Click  to close the pop-up.

The grid column headings are as follows:

  • Vehicle: The identifier for the vehicle, usually the vehicle number.

  • Primary Group: The main fleet group the vehicle belongs to.

  • Employees: The current employee(s) on the vehicle, such as the driver. This column will appear only if your organization has the Time and Attendance module.
