A location in Synovia is a meaningful area in your organization, around which you draw a zone (the geofence boundary). For more details about the three types of locations (schools, yards, and landmarks), see Navigating the Locations Screen. This article covers how to edit a location's zone and other properties, in the following two sections.


Editing the Zone


To fix a location's boundary (its zone), follow these steps:


  1. Click  >> Locations.
     
  2. On the Locations screen, click  in the row of the location whose zone you need to modify.
     
    The Geofence tab of the Edit Location screen will appear.
      
       
  3. Click Edit Area.
     
    The zone will be removed, and you will enter drawing mode.
     
  4. Outline the area of your location by clicking its shape on the map.
     
    Note: If you need to zoom in or out, use the zoom controls at the top left of the map. If you need to move the map after zooming, click and drag the map where you need it. If you’d prefer to redraw the zone using a satellite image, hover over the Layers icon at the top right of the map and select Satellite. (To go back to the map image, click Streets.)
    Note: Make sure that the zone doesn’t overlap to the street; if it does, you’ll get a lot of unwanted and incorrect data, such as vehicles in motion on the street appearing to be in your location. You’ll want to try to match the actual area as much as possible, with a variance of 2 to 3 meters.
  5. To complete the zone, click the first point you made as your last point.
    Note: If you need events in the zone to be returned with specific addresses rather than with the location's name, click Ignore for RGC (which stands for reverse geocoding).
  6. Click  at the top right of the screen.
     
    You'll be returned to the Locations screen.


Editing the Location's Properties


To update a location's properties, follow these steps:


  1. On the Locations screen, click  in the row of the location whose properties you need to modify.
     
    The Edit Location screen will appear.
        
  2. If you need to change the name of the location, select the text in the Name field and type the new name.
     
  3. If it's a yard, you can change the type of yard by clicking the Type drop-down arrow and selecting the new one (Depot, Parkout, or School). (See Adding a Location for an explanation of these.)
     
  4. Optionally, you can specify contact information, or update it by selecting its text and typing the new details.
     
  5. In the Zone Categories area, deselect any zone categories you want to remove the location from and select the categories you want to add the location to. ( means that is selected, and  deselected.)
    Note: All Locations cannot be deselected.
  6. Click  at the top right of the screen.
