A location in CalAmp K-12 is a meaningful area in your organization, around which you draw a zone (the geofence boundary). For more details about the three types of locations (schools, yards, and landmarks), see Navigating the Locations Screen. This article covers how to edit a location's zone in the first section below and its properties in the following three sections (one for each type).
Editing the Zone
To fix a location's boundary (its zone), follow these steps:
- Click
>> Locations.
- On the Locations screen, click
in the row of the location whose zone you need to modify.
The Geofence tab of the Edit Location screen will appear.
- Click Edit Area.
Options will appear at the top right of the map.
- Click Edit.
Squares will appear on the edges of the zone.
- Click and drag the squares to fine-tune the shape.
Note: If you need to zoom in or out, use the zoom controls at the top left of the map. If you need to move the map after zooming, you can use the arrows above the zoom controls to move your view where you need it. If you’d prefer to modify the zone using a satellite image, hover over the Layers icon at the top right of the map and select Satellite. (To go back to the map image, click Streets.)
Note: Make sure that the zone doesn’t overlap to the street; if it does, you’ll get a lot of unwanted and incorrect data, such as vehicles in motion on the street appearing to be in your location. You’ll want to try to match the actual area as much as possible, with a variance of 2 to 3 meters. - Click Save when you are done (the gray button on the map to the left of the top-right options).
Note: If you need events in the zone to be returned with specific addresses rather than with the location's name, click Ignore for RGC (which stands for reverse geocoding). - Click
at the top right of the screen.
You'll be returned to the Locations screen.
Editing a School's Properties
To update a school location's properties, follow these steps:
- Click
>> Locations.
- On the Locations screen, click
in the row of the school location whose properties you need to modify.
The Edit Location screen will appear.
Note: You won't be able to modify the information in the Routing System Info section (if any), as that comes directly from your route planning system via the import. - If you need to change the school's name, select the text in the Name field and type the new name.
- Optionally, you can specify contact information, or update it by selecting the text in the Contact Name, Contact Email, Contact Mobile Phone, Contact Phone, and Contact Fax fields and typing the new details.
- If your school district has the Here Comes the Bus (HCTB) add-on module, you can click the Enable for HCTB drop-down arrow and select Yes if the school will be offering HCTB notifications to the parents.
If not, you can set this to a value of No.
- You can update the time your school day begins by selecting the value in the AM Bell Time field and typing the new one (such as 8:00 AM), or you can click the time picker and specify a new hour/minute value.
- To change the time your school day ends, select the value in the PM Bell Time field and type the new one (such as 2:35 PM), or you can click the time picker and choose the hour/minute value.
- If you want the manually entered bell times (in the preceding two steps) to be used for arrival/departure times in reports and on the live monitors instead of the bell times from your route planning system (if you have one), click the Overwrite Bell Time drop-down arrow and select Yes.
If not, you can set this to a value of No.
Note: You can see the bell times your route planning system has for the school in the Bell Times from Planning System section. Again, you can't change these. (If the times are incorrect, you'll need to contact your route planner and have them fix the data so that it can be updated via the import.) - In the Zone Categories area, deselect any zone categories you want to remove the school location from and select the categories you want to add the location to. (
means selected, and
deselected.)
Note: All Locations cannot be deselected, and it's recommended to leave All Schools selected. - Click
at the top right of the screen.
Editing a Yard's Properties
You can edit the properties of a yard location as follows:
- Click
>> Locations.
- On the Locations screen, click
in the row of the yard location whose properties you need to modify.
The Edit Location screen will appear.
- If you need to change the yard's name, select the text in the Name field and type the new name.
- To change the type of yard, click the Type drop-down arrow and select the new one (Depot, Parkout, or School). (See Adding a Location for an explanation of these.)
- Optionally, you can specify contact information, or update it by selecting the text in the Contact Name, Contact Email, Contact Phone, and Contact Mobile Phone fields and typing the new details.
- In the Zone Categories area, deselect any zone categories you want to remove the yard location from and select the categories you want to add it to. (
means selected, and
deselected.)
Note: All Locations cannot be deselected, and it's recommended to leave All Yards selected. - Click
at the top right of the screen.
You can change the vehicles assigned to the yard by following the steps in Assigning Multiple Vehicles to a Yard.
Editing a Landmark's Properties
To update a landmark location's properties, follow these steps:
- Click
>> Locations.
- On the Locations screen, click
in the row of the landmark location whose properties you need to modify.
The Edit Location screen will appear.
- To change the landmark's name, select the text in the Name field and type the new name.
- In the Zone Categories area, deselect any zone categories you want to remove the landmark location from and select the categories you want to add it to. (
means selected, and
deselected.)
Note: All Locations cannot be deselected, and it's recommended to leave All Landmarks selected. - Click
at the top right of the screen.
