On the Substitutions screen, you can view all the buses that have had substitutions made for them and have replaced another vehicle, as follows:

Note: This article covers viewing your substitutions on the new Substitutions screen, which was released to all Comparative Analysis (CA) customers in May 2022. A significant difference between the new screen and the previous Substitutions screen is that is shows only vehicles that have been affected by substitutions, not all your itineraries.

If you miss being able to view all your itineraries in one place, do not worry! You can now see them on the new Active Tiers screen (see Viewing Your Itineraries at the Tier Level).

For details about the previous version of the Substitutions page, go to Substitutions Legacy.

The new Substitutions screen will show substitutions that have been made both on the new screen and on the previous Substitutions screen (now called Substitutions Legacy).

  1. Click  >> Substitutions.

The Substitutions screen will appear and show only routes/tiers that are/were affected by substitutions for today.

By default, the grid is sorted by bus name in ascending order (that is, A to Z for words or lowest to highest for numbers).

Both vehicles that have had routes/tiers/stops taken over by another bus (the original/default buses) and substitute buses (also called the target vehicles) will be displayed.

The column headers are as follows:

    • Bus: The name of the vehicle affected by a substitution for the selected time frame.

    • Route: The route name/number that contains a vehicle substitution (some deviation from the original plan).

    • Tier: The name/number of the tier affected by the substitution.

    • Start Time: The time the route is scheduled to begin.

    • End Time: The time the route is scheduled to finish.

    • Total Stops: The total number of stops in the route.

    • Service Date: The date of the substitution.

    • Subbed To: The name of the vehicle that has replaced the default bus. (If there is a value in this column, it means that the row is displaying the original bus’s data, and part of its route is being performed by a different vehicle than usual.)

    • Subbed From: The name of the vehicle that was originally assigned to the route/tier/stop (that will now be driven by a substitute bus). (If there is a value in this column, it means that the row is displaying the replacement bus’s data – the one that has taken over part of another vehicle’s normal route.)

  2. If you want to see only the original buses, you can click the Show drop-down arrow at the top of the screen and select Source Buses Only.

If you want to see only the replacement buses, select Target Buses Only on this drop-down list.

  3. If you would like to view substitutions from a different day (or a range of dates), follow these steps:

    1. Click the From date picker at the top right of the screen and select the first date of substitutions you want to see.

    2. Click the To date picker and select the last date.

    3. Click .

The new dates of substitutions will appear.

  4. To view all the affected tiers of an entered substitution, expand the vehicle’s row (by clicking  at the far left).
Note: You can quickly tell which are the original vehicles and which are the substitutes by looking at the Subbed To and Subbed From columns. If there is a value under Subbed To, that row is for the original bus; if there is a bus listed under Subbed From, the row contains the target vehicle's data. In addition, the original bus's row will have the Edit icon () at the far left.
The following example shows a substitute bus 409 that has had one bus stop (plus the resultant school stop) added to its route from vehicle 509, indicated by the blue highlighting:

The rows that haven't been affected by a substitution are white (the ones the bus was originally assigned to perform).

The toggle above the stop list has the options Show Original Stops and Show Revised Stops, with the latter being the default selection (as shown in the preceding figure); this means that the list shows all the stops the bus is now planned to perform, both its original and substitute runs. If you click this (sliding the selector to Show Original Stops), only the stops from the bus's original schedule will be displayed.

If you expanded the original bus's row (509 in this example), you would see this:

The stop (plus the resultant school stop) that has been substituted out to bus 409 is highlighted in green.
