If records are available for the service history of your vehicles, you can import the data into Synovia and use it to as a reference point for when future services are due, as follows:

Note: This takes the place of using the Sync button to start the service interval for a service schedule type and has the benefit of using your vehicles' past regular services, enabling you to just continue your current schedule on within the software.

  1. Prepare a text file named Service Schedule Data.txt with each vehicle's historical service data in its own row. Each row should contain these fields, in this exact order, separated by commas:

Vehicle name, service name, service date, odometer value, engine hours (optional), notes (optional)
Note: To leave one of the optional fields blank (Engine Hours or Notes), just make sure to include a comma followed by a space.
When you open the file in Notepad, it should look similar to this:

Warning: Make sure that the service names match what is already listed on the Service Schedule screen; for example, it uses "Change Oil," so any oil changes in your Service Schedule Data.txt file should have that exact name. This doesn't mean that you can't have new services that aren't preincluded in Synovia, but it does mean that you'll need to add those new names as specified below.
  2. In Synovia, click  >> Service Schedule.

The Service Schedule screen will appear.

  3. Expand each vehicle type you are importing records for and verify that the services you have listed in the file already exist. If any are new (or new for the types of vehicles), add the new service schedules as shown in Adding a Scheduled Service. (If any are completely new names of services, add the new names as described in that article.)

  4. After all the service types in Service Schedule Data.txt have been added for all the needed vehicle types, click  at the top right of the Service Schedule screen.

    A dialog box will appear.

  5. Click Choose File.

  6. Browse to the Service Schedule Data.txt file you prepared and select it.

Its name will appear in the Select File field.

  7. Click Finish.

A success message will appear, stating how many service logs were imported.

Caution: If one or more of the records you tried to import weren't included, that means something was missing or incorrect in your Service Schedule Data.txt file; if any record is incomplete (missing a field), has an extra field, includes erroneous information (such as a vehicle name that doesn't exist in the database), or contains unexpected date field formats, it will be skipped during the import process.
  8. When you check the details for a vehicle whose history you imported on the Service History screen, you'll see the information from your Service Schedule Data.txt file, and the next service due date will be based on that data (such as 90 days past the logged last Change Oil service).
