If you have the Comparative Analysis (CA) module, you will need to map entities from your planned routing system to Synovia entities. You will use entity mapping to map your school and yard entities in the routing system to school and yard locations in Synovia.

Note: For more information about mapping, see An Introduction to Mapping. For more information about Comparative Analysis, see An Introduction to Comparative Analysis. To see how to map routes in your planning system to Synovia vehicles, see Performing Itinerary Mapping.

Note: Some customers also use entity mapping to map vehicles in the planning system to vehicles in Synovia. See the section "Mapping Vehicles to Vehicles," later in this article. Be aware that this is not the recommended setup for optimal Synovia performance. Instead, we recommend mapping routes to vehicles, using itinerary mapping.

To map your planning system's schools and yards to Synovia locations, follow these steps:

  1. Click  >> Mapping.

The Mapping screen will appear and display sections for entities from your planned routing system, Synovia items, and matched items.

  2. Click the Entity Type drop-down arrow at the top of the screen and select Location.

  3. Click Load Mapping.

Imported school and yard entities will appear in a grid under Planned Routing, and the school and yard locations you have created will appear in the Synovia grid.

Note: The Planned Routing ID is an identifier assigned to that entity by your routing system; this column will be empty if your entities have never been matched before. If the Has Zone check box is selected for a location, this means that the zone for the location has been drawn.
  4. Click Quick Match at the bottom left.

Exact name matches between the first two sections will be linked and appear in the Matched Items grid.

  5. If any entities were missed in the quick match, you can select them individually by clicking the school or yard name in both the Planned Routing and Synovia grids and click the Match button on the bottom left. Then the matched name will appear in the Matched Items grid.

  6. After matching all your schools and yards, click Process at the bottom right to commit the match.

A confirmation dialog box will appear.

  7. Click Yes.

If this is the first time your entities have been matched, IDs will appear in the Planned Routing ID column of the Synovia grid.

  8. To export the grid data to PDF or Excel, click the  or  button at the top right of the screen.

Mapping Vehicles to Vehicles

  1. On the Entity Mapping tab of the Mapping screen, click the Entity Type drop-down arrow at the top of the screen and select Vehicle.
Note: The Vehicle option will appear in the drop-down list only if you have the setting Manage Yard-Vehicle set to UI (on the Preferences >> Settings screen). You may need to have your system administrator or Synovia fleet advisor or project manager turn this on for you.
  2. Click Load Mapping.

Imported vehicle entities will appear under Planned Routing, and your Synovia vehicles will appear in the Synovia grid.

  3. Click Quick Match at the bottom left.

Exact name matches between the first two sections will be linked and appear in the Matched Items grid.

  5. After matching all your vehicles to vehicles, click Process at the bottom right to commit the match.

A confirmation dialog box will appear.

  6. Click Yes.

If this is the first time your entities have been matched, IDs will appear in the Planned Routing ID column of the Synovia grid.
