Planned vs. Actual (PvA) is part of the Comparative Analysis (CA) module; it enables you to compare all the planned stops and stop times for a vehicle against the actual stops and times.

Note: For more details about PvA, see Navigating the Planned vs. Actual by Stop Screen. For more information about Comparative Analysis, see An Introduction to Comparative Analysis.

To view the PvA data for a vehicle, follow these steps:

  1. Click  >> Planned vs. Actual by Stop.

The PvA launch screen will appear.

  2. You can scroll to the vehicle/itinerary you need to view, or you can search for it by using the column filter.
Note: See Sorting and Filtering Column Data for instructions on how to filter a column's data.
  3. To view the PvA data on the new PvA by Stop screen, click  in the row of the vehicle/itinerary.

To view the legacy version of the screen, click .
Note: We recommend using the new page, as it has a more robust engine behind it, and the legacy one will eventually be removed.
The Planned vs. Actual by Stop screen for that vehicle/itinerary will appear and will automatically display today's results. (The figure below shows the new version of the map page.)

The icons at the top right are the same as those described in Navigating the Fleet Tracking Screen, with these additions:

    • : Toggles on and off markers that show the events along the vehicle's path.

    • : Toggles on and off a visual representation of each stop's radius, a circle surrounding the stop that's counted as that stop's boundaries by PvA. (The vehicle must stop within that radius for PvA to record the stop as having been made.)

  4. If you don't want to see the default options, you can click the Options drop-down arrow and make these changes:

    • You can click the date picker and choose a different day.

    • You can select Turn by Turn to see the vehicle's path drawn in a colored line. ( means selected, and  deselected.)

    • You can view a specific stop by clicking the By Stop tab and following these steps:

      1. Click Select Stop.

The Select Stop dialog box will appear.

      2. Click the check box of the stop.

      3. Click Select Stop.

The stop name will appear in the options under the From and To fields.

      4. Optionally, you can enter different From and To dates.

    • After making any of the preceding changes to the PvA options, click Continue.

The map and grid will be populated with stop data for the day and other options you chose.

  5. To give the data grid more of your screen real estate, you can click and drag the green horizontal line separating the map and grid up.

The stops will be numbered sequentially on both the map and grid. On the left in the grid are the planned stops and times, and on the right (with the red column headers) are the actual stops the vehicle performed and the times they occurred. On the map, the blue icons represent the planned stops, and the red icons are the actual stops.
Note: For an explanation of the grid column headers, see the section "Grid Details" at the bottom of this article.
  6. You can click a stop's row in the grid to zoom in on it on the map.

  7. Right-click a stop on the map for the following options:

    • Location Details: Displays stop details on the map, including its full address, its latitude and longitude, and the speed limit on that section of the street.

    • Map Nearby Here: Opens the Map Nearby screen, with the stop's address already selected as the location to search near for close-by fleet vehicles. See Mapping Vehicles near an Address for details.

Grid Details

The Planned grid column headings are as follows:

  • Date: The date of the itinerary.

  • #: The number of the stop in the tier. The stops will be listed in numerical order, chronologically as they are planned.

  • Route: The number/name of the route the vehicle is driving (one portion of the itinerary — a certain part of the day's assigned activities, such as the morning route).

  • Tier: The number/name of the tier (a portion of a route designated for a specific delivery, such as one manifest of students to one school).

  • Default Vehicle: The identifier for the vehicle (usually the vehicle number) that is assigned to run the tier.

  • Stop: The designation for the stop. Stops are sometimes named with their address.

  • Time: The time of day the stop is scheduled to occur.

  • Type: The type of stop, such as Pickup or Dropoff.

  • Students: The number of students assigned to the stop.
Note: The Students column will be displayed only if your school district uses the Student Ridership module. (Generally, Student Ridership means that your students scan on and off the bus using boarding ID cards, but this can take different forms.)

The Actual grid column headings are as follows:

  • Actual: The actual number of the stop, such as the third stop made in the tier (3).

  • Vehicle: The number/name of the vehicle that made the run (if the tier was substituted out, the replacement bus's name).

  • Time: The time of day the stop actually occurred.

  • Deviation: How far off the actual stop time was from the planned stop time, such as 3 for three minutes late or -2 for two minutes early.

  • Duration: How long the stop took to make.

  • Avg. Time: The time the stop is usually made, averaged over the past ten days.

  • Actual Loc: The actual address where the vehicle stopped.

  • Event: The event reported to CalAmp K-12 at the time of the stop.

  • Students: The number of students who scanned on or off the bus at the stop.
Note: Again, the Students column will be displayed only if your school district uses the Student Ridership module.
