Many of the Synovia screens have columnar data. You can organize the columns and sort and filter the values as best fit your needs.

Sorting

To sort a column, click its heading. The first click will sort by ascending order (an up arrow will be displayed), a second click will sort by descending order (a down arrow will be displayed), and a third click will restore the original view.

In the following figures, Event is the sorted column.

Filtering

To filter a column by value, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Filter icon () to the right of the column name.

A filter options box will appear and display all the values that are currently in the selected column. For example, the following figure shows the values available for the Event column.

  2. Uncheck Select All and check the boxes of just the values you want to see.

  3. Click Apply to set the filter.

You can also filter the data by certain specifications, by condition. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. In the Filter dialog box, click the By Condition tab.

  2. Under First Condition, click the Select Condition drop-down arrow and select the condition from the list.

The available conditions are as follows:

    • Equals: Displays only values that match exactly the text you will type in the Enter Value field.

    • Does Not Equal: Displays only values that do not exactly match the text you will type in the Enter Value field.

    • Begins With: Displays only values whose text starts with the letters you will type in the Enter Value field.

    • Ends With: Displays only values whose last few letters are the text you will type in the Enter Value field.

    • Contains: Displays any value that has the text you will type in the Enter Value field somewhere within it (so "ignition" will return both Ignition On and Ignition Off values).

    • Does Not Contain: Displays any value that does not have the Enter Value text anywhere within it.

  3. Type the text to include or exclude (depending on the condition you selected) in the Enter Value field.
Note: The filter is not case sensitive, so if you enter a value of "ignition off" for an Equals condition, for example, "Ignition Off" values will be displayed.
  4. Optionally, you can select another condition from the second Select Condition drop-down list (under Additional Condition) and type its corresponding textual value in its Enter Value field.
Note: Leave the AND radio button between the two conditions selected if you want to see only data that meets both specifications; click OR if you want data that matches either condition.
  5. Click Apply.

If a column has a filter applied to it, the filter icon will become darker, as a visual indicator:

Reorganizing

On many grid screens, you can change the order in which the columns are displayed. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Click and drag the header of the column you'd like to appear in a different spot in the grid. Don't release yet!

  2. Drag the header to your preferred location for the column.

In both places, the column header will be grayed out, and a blue bar will appear to the left of the new position. For example, the following figure shows the Hardware screen's Yard column being moved from the fourth position to the second one.

  3. Release the mouse button when you have the column where you want it.

The column will be moved to the new spot.

Note: On several Synovia screens, you can add or remove columns in addition to rearranging where they are onscreen. And you can save your new layout so that the screen will always appear according to your preferences. For details, go to Customizing the Grid Layout.
