You can substitute one bus for another if the original vehicle can't perform its usual routes. Making this substitution keeps the route data current, even though the vehicle has changed, and reports the replacement's route information to Here Comes the Bus, if you have that add-on app. You can add the substitution as follows:
- Tap
at the top left of the screen.
Note: If you are on certain screens (such as Vehicle Details), you'll need to tap Back first at the top left. - Tap Bus Substitutions on the menu that appears.
The Substitution screen will appear.
By default, you'll search for the original bus (the vehicle assigned to run the route) by name.
- You can tap Itinerary to search by itinerary/route instead.
- Type part of the name or itinerary in the search field.
- Tap
.
Only vehicles/itineraries that match your criteria will be returned.
By default, the current date will be used for the substitution.
- If you are entering a substitution for a later date (if not, skip down to step 7), follow these steps:
Note: You cannot add a substitution from the past — only for today or sometime in the future.- Tap in the Date row.
Date controls will appear.
- Tap the month and drag to choose a later month.
- Tap and drag the date value to choose a later day.
- You can change the year as well by tapping and dragging it.
Note: If you want to return to using today's date, you can select Reset Date. - Tap Confirm after you reach the date you are scheduling the substitution for.
- Tap in the Date row.
- Select the radio button of the original vehicle/itinerary.
- Tap Continue.
The Select Itineraries or Routes screen will appear.
- If you need to make a substitution for just part of the original bus's itinerary, tap
to the left of the itinerary name to expand it and show the routes.
If you need to make a tier-level replacement, expand the route containing the tier (by tapping its.
- Select the radio button for the route(s) or tier(s) that will be driven by another bus.
If the entire day's activity will be swapped out, you can tap the radio button for the itinerary. This will select all routes/tiers.
- Tap Continue.
The Search for Replacement Vehicle screen will appear.
- Type part of the replacement bus's name in the search field.
- Tap .
Only vehicles/itineraries that match your criteria will be returned.
- Select the radio button of the substitute bus.
- Tap Continue.
The substitution will be entered into the system, and the Substitution Confirmed screen will appear.
- If you have added all the tiers you need swapped out for the original bus, tap No.
Note: If you want to add more routes or tiers to this substitution, tap Yes, Add a Substitution and start back at step 9. - If you tap No, you will be returned to the Substitution screen, where you can add more substitutions, as needed.
