The Ridership Monitor is part of the Student Ridership module; it enables you to observe fleet vehicles that are transporting students in real time on a map and the number of students currently on each vehicle. You can drill down to view one vehicle's scan data, including which students are on the bus, when they scanned on or off, and the scan location.

Note: For more information about Student Ridership, see An Introduction to Student Ridership.

To monitor vehicles carrying passengers live, follow these steps:

  1. Click  >> Ridership Monitor.

The Ridership Monitor will appear and display all the vehicles in your fleet that are currently transporting students, both on the map to the right and in a grid list on the left.

The grid lists the vehicles by primary group, route, vehicle name, status, how far off of plan the route has been deviated from, location of the vehicle, and how many students are currently on each bus.

  2. To view scan details for one of the buses, click it in the list.

A list of the students currently on the bus, plus the times and locations of the scans, will appear in the lower grid on the left, and just the vehicle's scan locations will be shown on the map.

The scan data will be refreshed every two minutes, but the vehicle map locations will be refreshed every time an event is triggered (about every ten seconds).

The Scan Source column in the lower grid has these possible values:

    • RFID: A valid student scan using an RFID (radio frequency identification) card. A scan is valid if the student is boarding or exiting the vehicle at their assigned bus stop or school stop. Indicated on the map with a green icon.

    • Student: A valid student scan using a bar code student ID card. Again, a scan is valid if the student is boarding or exiting the vehicle at their assigned bus stop or school stop. Indicated on the map with a green icon.

    • Wrong Stop: The student who scanned on or off is on the manifest for that vehicle, but they are getting on or off the bus at a different stop than the one assigned to them. Indicated on the map with a red icon.

    • Wrong Vehicle: The student who performed the scan isn't assigned to the vehicle they're attempting to board. Indicated on the map with a red icon.

    • Driver: For Special Education routes only. The driver selected the student on the mobile data terminal (MDT) manifest. Indicated on the map with a green icon.

  3. To export the grid data to PDF or Excel, click the or  button at the top right of the screen, respectively.
Note: If you have one bus's details open in the lower grid, both grids will be exported. For the PDF option, the map will be exported as well.
