Substitutions is part of the Comparative Analysis (CA) module; it enables you to substitute vehicles in Synovia for vehicles that require maintenance or otherwise cannot perform their usual routes — in other words, to assign a different vehicle to Synovia itineraries, routes, and tiers. This substitution enables you to keep the route data current, even though the vehicle has changed, and to report the replacement's route information to Here Comes the Bus, if you have that add-on app. (See the Here Comes the Bus website and the Here Comes the Bus Help documentation for more information.)

Note: On the legacy site (Silverlining), Substitutions was called Slice-N-Dice.

Note: For more information about Comparative Analysis, see An Introduction to Comparative Analysis.

This article describes the various features of the Substitutions screen, which you access by clicking  >> Substitutions.

Note: For information about the banner at the top and accordion menu on the left, see Navigating the Synovia Site.

These are the options at the top right of the screen:

  • From and To: These date pickers enable you to select the date range of itineraries and substitutions you'd like to view.

  • /: When  is clicked, only routes that are at risk are displayed. A route is considered at risk if today's most-recent tier has a start time that's elapsed but the last event time of its current vehicle occurred a certain number of minutes ago. (See Specifying the Substitutions At-Risk Value to see how to set the amount of minutes, if you have administrator privileges.) Also, the rows of at-risk routes are highlighted yellow. Clicking  returns the screen to showing all the routes.

  • : Refreshes the data on the screen (which can be especially useful if other users are making substitutions). Clicking this is necessary after selecting new dates using the From and To date pickers to see the tiers for the new dates.

  • : Begins the process of substituting out multiple vehicles at once for the current date. (See Bulk Loading Substitutions for details.)

  • : Begins the process of substituting one vehicle for another. (See Making a Vehicle Substitution.)

  • : Saves the grid data as a PDF you can print.

  • : Exports the grid data to an Excel spreadsheet.

Here is an explanation of the grid's column headers:

  • Itinerary: The itinerary name/number.

  • Route: The route name/number.

  • Tier: The tier name/number.

  • Date: The date of the route.

  • Default Vehicle: The vehicle that is assigned to the itinerary — the one that usually runs its routes.

  • Current Vehicle: The vehicle that is running the tier (the substitute, if there is one).

  • Start Time: The scheduled beginning time for the tier.

  • Last Event Time: The most recent date and time the vehicle reported to Synovia.

  • School: The school the tier services.

  • Subbed By: If the tier has a vehicle substitution, the user who entered the substitution into Synovia.

  • Subbed On: The date and time that substitution was made.

Along the bottom of the screen are icons that enable you to navigate through the pages of data. See Paging Options for an explanation of these.
